"Thursday Night Football" is back as it was meant to be.
The primetime kickoff to start the NFL week had always been a place to feature some of the worst games the league could offer. Since it was mandatory that every team play a Thursday game, it was only natural that fans would be subjected to the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars – arguably the most famous matchup of that "TNF" era.
Throw in some funky color rush jerseys and the advertisers are lining up for a big payday.
Now Thursday nights are reserved for some heavyweight bouts, something that won't be on the menu this week. Instead fans are being treated a blast from the past when the Green Bay Packers host the Atlanta Falcons. Both team have spun their tires for two weeks, even
if the Packers did eke out a win over the New York Jets.
The Falcons haven't been to the red zone, which is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the team's struggles with Cooper Rush at quarterback. As Michael Penix Jr.'s return looms, Kevin Stefanski and Co. desperately need a win to avoid this operation falling apart before it even gets started.
As for the hosts, Green Bay avoided disaster by staging a fourth quarter comeback to win in overtime. The Packers did lose Jayden Reed and Zach Bako-Bewele in the process, but Jordan Love and Christian Watson proved to be enough.
This won't be on the list of potential NFC championship game matchups. However, it might just be the game you're longing for on a Thursday night in June when nothing is going on. So we should appreciate it, no matter how ugly the game might be.
