Bill Belichick is used to the rumor mill churning around him, but it is usually in a football sense. Now, his personal life has been cast into the limelight.
And when asked about it for the first time in an interview setting, he provided a familiar answer: He's on to Cincinnati. Or, in this case, Connecticut.
After North Carolina's hard-fought 38-35 loss to No. 1 Miami on Halloween, Belichick was asked about a report that he and girlfriend Jordon Hudson had secretly broken up last year. The famously curt coach wasn't having it.
"Do you work for a tabloid now?" Belichick asked reporter Brian Murphy of WRAL, who had asked the question. "I'll keep my personal
comments and relationships to myself if that's alright with you."
The rumors were surprising to members of the North Carolina program, with two people inside the UNC football offices telling USA TODAY Sports they were caught off guard by the TMZ report. Belichick and Hudson have been in the public eye several times since the alleged breakup.
While Belichick and Hudson's relationship initially drew attention because of the sizable age gap between the two — Belichick is 74 years old while Hudson is 25 — the focus on Hudson took on a different meaning when Belichick was hired by the Tar Heels.
In May 2025, about five months after Belichick arrived in Chapel Hill, journalist Pablo Torre reported that Hudson had been banned from the UNC football facility. Hudson then filed a series of Freedom of Information Act requests to the school to try to get information on communication between UNC athletic department staffers and eight different reporters, including Torre. As recently as late September, the two were spotted at a Maryland high school football game during UNC's bye week.
After a disastrous 4-8 finish in Belichick's first season at the school, the Tar Heels have shown signs of improvement in Year Two under the legendary former NFL coach, with a 4-4 record heading into their Week 10 game at UConn.
