New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson revealed he was hospitalized for several days while dealing with an illness that has kept him out of action in recent weeks.
The 24-year-old shed some light on the medical condition with which he is dealing in a statement released on Friday, Nov. 6.
"Recently, I experienced an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms that required hospitalization for several days," Henderson wrote. "During that time, I underwent extensive medical testing and evaluation. While the results of my comprehensive medical testing have come back positive and reassuring, the cause of this remains unknown and unexplainable."
"I will continue working closely with specialists
and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions," he added. "I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health. My health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priorities."
Henderson was first listed on the Patriots' injury report because of an illness on Thursday, Oct. 29, ahead of his team's game against the Miami Dolphins. The Ohio State product did not play in Week 8 because of the illness and has not yet returned to Patriots practice.
Neither Henderson nor the Patriots have provided an indication on whether there is a potential timetable for him to return to action. Henderson simply referenced his faith and expressed gratitude for the support he has received since the medical emergency occurred.
"My wife and I are deeply grateful for family and loved ones, the New England Patriots organization, my agent, my medical team, teammates, and everyone who has offered prayers, encouragement, and support," Henderson said. "We respectfully ask for continued prayers and privacy as we focus on my health and recovery."
Henderson has appeared in six games this season and has logged 203 rushing yards and a touchdown on 52 carries in addition to five catches for 45 yards. During his rookie campaign, the 2025 second-round pick totaled 1,132 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns while finishing third in the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.
Rhamondre Stevenson will continue to work as New England's backfield leader with Henderson sidelined while Corey Kiner and Lan Larison will serve as his top backups.
