It's almost always a bad idea to overreact to Week 1 in fantasy football. It's a long, unpredictable season full of injuries and flash in the pan players, especially now that teams don't take the preseason seriously.
With that being said, some of the other managers in your leagues might not be as cool, calm and collected as you are. They might be pacing after Week 1, staring up at the sky and wondering whether it's already time to give up on Ja'Marr Chase.
If you play with these kind of managers, it's worth sending out some trade offers. There could be opportunities to take advantage of that mid-September restlessness by trying to sell high and buy low, though you also don't want to be too aggressive with early trade offers. This is the time of year
to just set out some fish hooks and see what bites.
Here are eight fantasy football trade targets for Week 2:
Week 2 fantasy football players to buy
James Cook, RB, Bills
Those who took Cook in the first round might have a bit of running back FOMO, as other top RBs like Jahmyr Gibbs, Derrick Henry and Bijan Robinson all had matchup-winning weeks to start the year. If the Cook manager in your league is panicking after just 69 all-purpose yards and no touchdowns in Week 1, it's a good time to acquire the fifth-year pro. The Bills scoring 36 points against a great Texans defense is a strong sign for their offense going forward and Josh Allen won't run for two touchdowns every week.
Justin Herbert, QB, Chargers
The offseason darling Chargers were shockingly rusty in a Week 1 loss to the lowly Cardinals despite bringing in new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. Herbert threw for just 219 yards and looked uncomfortable all afternoon. Give it a couple weeks before calling it on L.A., though. The ceiling with McDaniel is just too high to give up on in September.
Colson Loveland, TE, Bears
The second-year tight end finished with no catches despite a route percentage over 90% in a game where the Bears put up 59 points. That is not great. You should keep the faith in Loveland, though, who was a top-5 TE off the board in drafts for a reason. The Bears are going to keep scoring in droves and Kalif Raymond (8 catches for 84 yards) is not going to lead Chicago in receiving every week.
Rashod Bateman, WR, Ravens
This Ravens offense under new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle looks really fun. Bateman didn't really participate in it in Week 1, finishing with no catches, but Baltimore saw both Zay Flowers and Ja'Kobi Lane leave the game early with injuries. If either miss time, Bateman is one of the only remaining options for Lamar Jackson. And after a Week 1 stinker, the price to acquire should be negligible.
Week 2 fantasy football players to sell
Justin Jefferson, WR, Vikings
Critics from Baton Rouge to Minneapolis are lining up to yell at this opinion, which has little to do with Jefferson and everything to do with who is throwing him the ball. If Kyler Murray misses time with his head injury, the options are Carson Wentz (bad at winning football games, good for feeding Jefferson) or J.J. McCarthy (might just be bad, full stop). Jefferson's big day with Wentz on Sunday (eight catches for 92 yards and two scores) could be the right time to sell if you can fetch a huge haul.
Bryce Young, QB, Panthers
By the end of the year, we could look back on this Bears defense as one of the worst units in the league. Young threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns and made some nice plays, but his size is always going to be a limiting factor against top defenses. If another manager wants to buy him like a top-10 QB, you should allow that to happen.
David Montgomery, RB, Texans
Buffalo had one of the worst rush defenses in the league last season and still held the first-year Texans RB to 60 yards on 20 carries on Sunday. Houston's offensive line still isn't creating much room to work with and we could be in for another high volume, touchdown dependent season like the one Woody Marks had in Houston last season. If you can sell Montgomery after he scored two touchdowns, this is probably the window to do so.
Marvin Harrison Jr, WR, Cardinals
Generally the idea here is to buy low and sell high, but it's starting to look like Harrison, one of the most hyped prospects ever at the wide receiver position, might not ever have a sell window that matches his pedigree. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett attempted 37 passes on Sunday and just three of them went toward Harrison. He turned that into one catch for 33 yards. If 31-year-old Kendrick Bourne is pulling down all eight targets for 75 yards in the same game, Harrison is not only solidly behind both Trey McBride and Michael Wilson, but might just be a role player with a name people recognize. Sell now if you can and hop off the roller coaster.
