A motorcyclist in Virginia was busted for traveling nearly three times the speed limit so he could catch the end of McDonald's breakfast hours.
On Aug. 19, a Manassas City Police Department officer stopped a motorcyclist who was traveling 72 mph in a 25-mph zone, Sgt. Shauna Moller told USA TODAY in an email. Manassas is located about 30 miles southeast of Washington, DC.
"I was trying to hit the McDonald's breakfast. I was rushing. I woke up late," the unidentified motorcyclist told the officer, as captured in bodycam footage shared on social media by the Manassas City police Sept. 27. McDonald's typically stops serving breakfast items between 10:30 to 11 a.m. local time, according to the fast food chain's website.
The officer issued the motorcyclist
a ticket for reckless driving, Moller said.
"I ride bikes. The first thing that's going to fly out of that bike is you. 72 (miles per hour), someone pulls in front of you, you're done," the officer told the motorcyclist, as captured in the bodycam footage.
"We'd like to remind everyone to drive safely and stay aware of the speed limit so we can all make it to our destinations, even if it means arriving a little late or missing the breakfast menu," Moller said.

Motorcycle fatalities account for over 15% of traffic deaths in 2024
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcycles made up for 3% of all registered vehicles, but motorcyclists accounted for about 16% of all traffic fatalities in 2024. NHTSA data shows that this is one of the highest numbers for motorcycle fatalities since 1975.
