The MLS Eastern Conference playoff field was set heading into the final day of the regular season, but the matchups shifted with nearly every goal that hit the net during Decision Day.
A late goal from Columbus Crew attacker Brais Mendez that lifted Laurent Courtois' squad to a 4-3 win over the Chicago Fire helped the Crew climb out of the wild-card game, a single-leg contest on Nov. 19.
Instead, it will be Orlando City, dropping into that contest despite a win against the New England Revolution, hosting FC Cincinnati, which fell to a Nashville SC that set the record for most points in an MLS regular season.
Inter Miami scored three first-half goals, and despite conceding three and settling for a point with Charlotte FC the Herons hold on to the No.
2 seed, setting up a Round One series with the Crew.
Charlotte stays in fifth and now meets the Fire, while the Revs will face the Philadelphia Union, who got two goals from 17-year-old Cavan Sullivan and one from older brother Quinn to ease past Toronto FC, 4-1.
The MLS playoffs will begin after the international window, with wild-card games set for Nov. 19 and the Round One series beginning Nov. 20.
