Commanders vs Eagles key storylines
1. Philadelphia needs a reset: The Eagles have dropped five straight after a 2-0 start, with Monday's 38-21 loss to the Cowboys moving them to 2-5. Another division loss would make an already difficult climb even steeper for a team that's more realistically already on to 2027 due to so many key injuries.
2. Keep an eye on Saquon: Speaking of injuries, Saquon Barkley played only nine snaps Monday while dealing with hamstring and back issues. He offered an encouraging assessment of his hamstring and said he doesn't expect the back problem to keep him out. His practice workload still warrants watching.
3. The preparation advantage favors Washington: The Commanders come off their bye, while the Eagles turn around from Monday night for a Sunday road
game. That's valuable extra time to prepare for Tanner McKee and the Eagles' reshuffled offense.
4. McKee needs help from his defense: Philadelphia's quarterback threw for 211 yards, one touchdown and one interception against Dallas. The Eagles produced three touchdown drives, but their defense couldn't slow the Cowboys. Sustaining drives only helps so much if the other team keeps answering.
5. We should expect points: With a game total around 40.5, we're not asking for much to hit 41 points, even from these two offenses. The trends are on our side. Commanders coach Dan Quinn is 8-1 to the over in division games since the start of last season, while the Eagles are 7-1 to the over against the Commanders under coach Nick Sirianni.

Commanders vs Eagles USA TODAY expert picks
Adam Kaufman: Commanders 24, Eagles 17
Philadelphia showed some offensive life Monday, but the injury situation keeps getting in the way. Saquon Barkley aggravated his hamstring and played only nine snaps, leaving another major question around an offense already operating without Jalen Hurts. Tanner McKee can keep things functional when the Eagles protect him and stay balanced. That becomes much harder if the Commanders take away the run and force longer passing situations. Washington also has the benefit of a bye and lots of extra rest, while Philadelphia turns around from Monday night. It's so disappointing this is a primetime game.
Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz: Eagles 19, Commanders 14
Seldom has prime time featured two teams facing such desperation around midseason. The severely shorthanded Eagles offense finally showed signs of life against the Cowboys, though the once-reliable defense suffered perhaps its worst performance of the Vic Fangio era. Expect a bounce-back outing against a Washington team short on weapons.
Nicholas Brinkerhoff: Commanders 23, Eagles 13
The Commanders haven't won a game that Jayden Daniels started in since Oct. 5, 2025. Washington is 0-7-1 in the eight starts after that victory, but the time has come as the team comes out of the bye. They have run out of alarms to describe the fire on Dan Quinn's seat, making this contest a must-win for the Commanders to have any chance of making the playoffs in a weak NFC East. Against a battered and bruised Eagles squad that is running out of players, there is no better time for Washington to get back in the win column.
