Despite finishing with an 81-81 record, the Houston Astros won the American League West and host the Chicago White Sox for the best-of-three AL wild card series at Daikin Park beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29.
"I've been here for almost a decade, and just how this team just rallies around adversity – they don't run from it. They actually run to it," Houston manager Joe Espada told reporters.
The White Sox are making their first playoff appearance since 2021 and are just two years removed from a 121-loss 2024 season, the worst record in baseball history.
Houston's Jose Altuve enters the series with 27 career postseason home runs, second only to Manny Ramirez's 29 in MLB history. The Astros have made the playoffs 10 times in 12 years and won World Series
titles in 2017 and 2022. The White Sox's last World Series title came in 2005.
