Texas Gov. Greg Abbott traded the podium for the brisket board at Buc-ee's newest Texas location.
Abbott attended the grand opening of Buc-ee's newest store in San Marcos on Aug. 12, where he delivered remarks, presented a proclamation and participated in the opening celebration, according to the Texas Governor's Office
During the event, Abbott highlighted Buc-ee's contributions to the Texas economy and noted that the new San Marcos location will create more than 170 jobs, according to a news release from the governor's office. Abbott also said the company ranks among the top five U.S. retailers for entry-level salaries.
The governor presented a proclamation to Buc-ee's Founder and president, Arch "Beaver" Aplin, and took part in a ribbon-cutting
ceremony marking the store's opening. Abbott also joined employees in the company's "Brisket on the Board" tradition, slicing and serving brisket to customers.
The governor's office said the San Marcos location spans 74,000 square feet. With the addition of the new store, Buc-ee's operates nearly 60 locations nationwide.
