Simone Biles loves to tell a good story, and this time it's about gatekeeping.
The Olympic gold medalist, in an Aug. 18 TikTok, opened up about a "weird" interaction she had with an influencer, saying she had been following the beauty centeric content creator "for a while" before deciding to contact her.
"And the reason why I followed her is because I loved her style, her content. She was super, super cute, but her hair was always laid to a T. Like, I could not tell if that was her real hair or a weave," Biles, 29, explained. "And at the time, I was like, really, I was really, I would say, particular about hair."
"Like, y'all have been bullying me for so long about what my hair looked like during competitions so I'm like, okay, if my hair looks
like that, they're not gonna say anything," she added.
So, Biles slid into the influencer's DMs.
According to Biles, things took a weird turn when she asked the influencer, whom she did not identify, to share her hairdresser's contact information, or social media handle.
"And she replies, 'Bless. My manager has it. I'll have to ask her,'" Biles said. "What? You don't know who does your hair when you go to your hair appointments? You don't have their contact or Instagram? Like, I get gatekeeping, but to a certain extent."
Biles added: "And mind you, we lived in two different states, so I think maybe she thought, like, I was gonna steal her hairstylist or something, but that's not at all what it was. I travel all the time, so if I'm ever in that area, like, 'Hey, let me get slayed real quick.'"
Biles unfollowed influencer to rid 'negativity' in her life
Biles said she unfollowed the influencer shortly after because she "didn't need that kind of negativity in my life."
"But isn't that weird? Is that weird or that's just me? Does that happen to y'all? I don't know. I just. To this day, I still think about it, and it cracks me up, but also, like, what? Yeah. I don't know," she concluded.
Biles' storytime was posted shortly after she shared a short clip of her and her husband Jonathan Owens hanging out at an Indianapolis Colts practice.
"In this life & the next (heart emoji) oh & football season is back," she wrote for the post's caption.
