NEW YORK – It was a double celebration for Katerina Siniakova and for Taylor Townsend, the final piece of the puzzle to a career Grand Slam.
Siniakova and Townsend, the tournament's No. 1 seed, captured their first U.S. Open women’s doubles title together, rallying to beat young Americans Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 in the final in Arthur Ashe Stadium on on Friday, Sept. 11.
Townsend, a 30 year-old American, and Siniakova, a 30-year-old from Czechia, captured their first major title at Wimbledon in 2024 before adding the 2025 Australian Open, the 2026 French Open and this US Open championship.
Townsend and Siniakova found themselves down 0-3, and went on to lose the first set, but then they turned it on, blanking the wildcard
entrants in the second set, before slamming and forehand baselining their way to a 6-2 closing set.

For Siniakova, it was actually the second time she completed career doubles Grand Slam, having already accomplished the feat with Barbora Krejcikova when the pair won the 2022 US Open. She has also won a doubles title at the 2024 French Open with Coco Gauff.
“There was lot of nerves,” Siniakova said after the match. “We were really fighting for this one, so I’m just really proud. We did it.”

Krueger and Montgomery went on quite a run, beating the defending champions Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski in separate matches, as both played with different partners this time around.
It was also a reunion for Krueger and Montgomery, who won the U.S. Open girls’ doubles title in 2021.
"I think with what we've just done has been amazing." Montgomery said. "I think we did forget that we were offered a wild card, so I'm just glad we made good use of it, and I'm glad we were able to come back together and continue playing here, especially with our success in juniors."
For Townsend, the match served a greater historical marker for black American tennis players. Addressing the fans inside Ashe following their victory, Townsend pointed out that there were two Black American women competing in the doubles final – herself and Montgomery – on the same day two Black American men will face off in the men's singles semifinals for a place in Sunday's final.
