At least one person is dead and six others, including two police officers, were injured after a shooting in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday, Sept. 2, according to city and hospital officials.
The shooting
took place in the city's downtown near 15 E. Grant St., city officials reported at about 5 p.m. local time. According to a city spokesperson, the shooting involved "multiple victims," including two police officers. City officials asked people to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
Hennepin Healthcare Medical Center said in a statement that seven patients from the incident were taken to a local hospital. One of those taken to the hospital has died, said center spokesperson Joshua Yetman.
"My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon," Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said in a statement on X. "State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement and we will share more information as it becomes available."
"Pray for Minnesota," he added.
USA TODAY reached out to city officials for additional information. Luis de Leon, a city spokesperson, said more information will be provided as it becomes available.
