Art Garfunkel is reportedly postponing his upcoming tour.
The singer and one-half of the legendary duo Simon & Garfunkel has postponed his upcoming shows in the United Kingdom, according to the Independent and the Daily Mail, with the latter reporting that the move is due to a respiratory infection.
"During rehearsals for my upcoming concerts, I nearly postponed a scheduled appointment with my physician," Garfunkel, 84, said in a statement Thursday, Oct. 8, per Daily Mail. "Thankfully, my wonderful wife, Kim, insisted that I keep it. As it turns out, I have been diagnosed with a respiratory infection, and my doctor has advised me to take some time to rest and recover.
"My heart is broken that I must postpone these performances. At this season of
my life, to be so warmly received by audiences and surrounded by so much love is a gift beyond words," he added. "Singing for you has always been one of the greatest joys of my life, and the thought of disappointing you saddens me deeply."
USA TODAY has reached out to Garfunkel's reps for comment.
Garfunkel had a handful of shows set in the U.K. in October as part of his What A Wonderful World Tour. The folk rock star and poet expects to reschedule the dates for a later date, per the outlets.
"I promise you that I will return to the stage and sing for you as soon as my health allows," he continued. "Please don't worry about me. I'm in good hands, and I expect to be just fine."
Alongside Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel rose to fame in the late 1950s, with hits including "The Sound of Silence," "Mrs. Robinson," "Homeward Bound," "Cecilia" and "Bridge over Troubled Water." Garfunkel's successful solo singles include "All I Know," "I Only Have Eyes for You" and "Bright Eyes."

The duo split in 1970 and have not performed together in nearly two decades, in part due to their fractured relationship.
In 2010, Simon & Garfunkel canceled a much-anticipated tour after Garfunkel's battle with vocal cord paresis, a partial paralysis or weakness of a vocal cord.
