August has gotten off to a soggy start in Washington DC, where three days of at least 0.49 inches of rain have left the nation’s capital soaked.
More than 3 inches of rain has already fallen in August — nearly triple the average for the first 10 days of the month.
And with more rain in the forecast, it will likely stay wet outside for the foreseeable future.

How much has it rained in Washington DC in August?
Through the first 10 days of the month, DC has already received 3.14 inches of rain in August.
The total is driven largely by three rainfall events: 1.74 inches on Aug. 2, 0.49 inches on Aug. 5 and 0.87 inches on Aug. 10.
It's some much needed rain for DC, which had fallen short of its monthly rainfall averages in 11
of the past 12 months.
The National Weather Service says severe thunderstorms are possible each of the next three days, bringing the possibility of flash flooding.
What's the record for most rain in August in Washington DC?
Even if DC were to continue its pace for rain this month, it would still fall well short of the record for the most rain in August.
The record came in 1928, when 14.41 inches fell of rain during the month.
The most that has fallen this century in August is the 9.07 inches DC received in 2021 - more than double the District's average of 4.07 inches.
