A new train is getting ready to pull into Pittsburgh's station.
Travelers can already take a once-daily trip from Pittsburgh to New York City via Amtrak. But this fall, there will be a second train, giving more people in Pittsburgh the chance to take the cross-state route to the Big Apple.
"Railroads transformed our Commonwealth into a powerhouse of the Industrial Age, and my Administration is focused on continuing that legacy while responding to our communities’ needs and helping them grow," Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said in an Aug. 24 press release. "The people of western Pennsylvania have waited a long time for more passenger rail service, and my Administration has chased every opportunity to get this done."

Second daily Amtrak route from Pittsburgh to New York starts in November
Amtrak already has one daily route from New York City to Pittsburgh, but this autumn, a second daily train will begin operating along the same route, Shapiro announced on Aug. 24.
The second Pennsylvanian train will be up and running in mid-November, and Amtrak plans to begin ticket sales in October.
Shapiro's administration has invested more than $80 million into rail expansion, funds that have gone toward this new train and other infrastructure throughout the state like new or upgraded interlocking locations and added main lines. These projects are being overseen collaboratively by PennDOT, Amtrak and Norfolk Southern Railway.
Both the current and the new Pennsylvanian trains travel along Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line. This line is part of the Premier Corridor, which carries double-stack intermodal traffic traveling between Chicago and New York.
How long is Pittsburgh's Amtrak ride?
Pittsburgh's current Amtrak train to New York travels a route that takes about nine hours and 20 minutes to complete, leaving Pittsburgh at 7:30 a.m. daily and arriving in New York just after 4:50 p.m., according to the rail service's website.
The train stops in Greensburg, Latrobe, Johnstown, Altoona, Tyrone, Huntingdon, Lewistown, Harrisburg, Elizabethtown, Lancaster, Exton, Paoli and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, and Trenton and Newark, New Jersey, before arriving in New York.
On its way back, it leaves New York at about 11 a.m. and arrives in Pittsburgh around 8 p.m.
There are Amtrak connection in Pittsburgh to the Floridian train No. 40, as well as trains heading to and from Cleveland, Toledo and other intermediate points.
