The Emmys are paying tribute to Rob Reiner, nearly a year after his death.
The 78th annual Primetime Emmys honored the late filmmaker, who died last December alongside wife Michele Singer Reiner, during the ceremony's In Memoriam segment on Monday, Sept. 14.
The emotional presentation also featured other memorable stars who died this year, including country music icon Dolly Parton, "Nashville" star Hayden Panettiere, "Dawson's Creek" actor James Van Der Beek and Laura Dern's mother, Diane Ladd.
Grammy-nominated singer Noah Kahan performed a touching rendition of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" as images of the Hollywood icons played on screen.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis closed the segment with a teary tribute to Reiner, who won a posthumous
award for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for his appearance in FX's "The Bear."
"Last year we lost another cherished legend, our beloved 'Meathead,' Rob Reiner," said Curtis, referring to Reiner's classic role on the Norman Lear sitcom "All in the Family." "He was generous and kind and funny as hell and a friend to all.
Curtis also pointed out that Reiner's Emmys win earned him a new distinction for the longest gap between acting Emmys (his previous win was 48 years ago in 1978). The record was previously held by Reiner's own father, Carl Reiner, who had a 37-year gap with his wins in 1958 and 1995.
"We all miss Rob and Michele and all those we lost this year," Curtis concluded.
Rob and Michele Reiner were killed at their Los Angles home in an incident for which their youngest son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with murder. Nick has been behind bars since Dec. 14, 2025, the same day the couple was found dead by authorities. Law enforcement and prosecutors alleged Nick Reiner used a knife to fatally stab his parents.
Nick Reiner is now facing two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Rob and Michele Reiner's son, Jake Reiner, opened up about the agony of losing his parents in an April Substack essay, titled "Mom and Dad."
"I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it's not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare," wrote Jake Reiner, who's been grieving his parents' deaths alongside sister Romy Reiner. "They were the last people in the world to deserve what happened to them. They deserved to be loved, they deserved to be respected, and above all, they deserved to be appreciated for how much they gave to all three of us and to the world."
