Do you have an old, unused car seat collecting dust in your attic or shed? If so, you can soon turn it into your nearest Target store and get a discount on new baby gear.
Target's popular car seat trade-in event returns Sept. 20 and shoppers can get a 20% off Target Circle Bonus on a new baby gear purchase when they drop off their old car seat. The even ends Oct. 3, according to Target's website.
The retailer will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including infant car seats, convertible car seats, car seat bases and harness or booster car seats. Expired and damaged car seats can also be turned in.

When is Target's car seat trade-in event?
The car seat trade-in event runs from Sept. 20 through Oct. 3 at Target stores nationwide.
How does the car seat trade-in program work?
Shoppers
simply drop old car seats in the designated box at their local Target store and scan the barcode on the box, then tap "Add to Target Circle Bonus." The 20% off bonus will appear in your wallet in the Target app, according to Target's website.
The discount can be used toward a new car seat, booster seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller or other select baby gear, according to Target, and it can also be combined with other offers. The bonus is redeemable twice, Target says on its website.
What does Target do with the car seats that are traded in?
Target says materials from the car seats are recycled to create new products such as pallets, plastic buckets, construction materials and select Brightroom items.
The retailer first introduced the car seat trade-in program in April 2016 and says over 3.5 million car seats – and over 1.2 million pounds of car seat material – have been recycled since then.
