Netflix has canceled "Ransom Canyon" after two seasons.
Based on the novel series by Jodi Thomas, the Western romantic drama followed three ranching families vying for control. Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel starred as the central will-they-won't-they couple, widowed rancher Staten Kirkland and New York City-bound pianist Quinn O'Grady.
The second season, which premiered on Netflix on July 23, saw a love triangle emerge, though it ended on a hopeful note for the pair.
Kelly confirmed the reports, including from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, in an Instagram post Friday, Sept. 11.
"Appreciating this little trip down memory lane as we say farewell," the actress captioned a compilation of screen moments between Staten and Quinn. "All good things
must come to an end. And so it is. Thank you all for giving us two beautiful seasons! I love you forever my Ransom Canyon family!"
The news comes after the series' second season renewal was uncertain, Deadline reported.
Kelly had just celebrated the series being No. 1 in the United States. "Thank you to everyone who's been watching!!" the "Friday Night Lights" alum captioned a series of July Instagram photos, including with costar Lizzy Greene.
Actor Garrett Wareing, who played Lucas, also celebrated the milestone. "RANSOM CANYON IS NUMBER 1 on @netflix!! Thanks to YOU," he captioned photos with the cast and crew. "What you see is the finished product, but the life behind the scenes is filled with some of the kindest folks around. Love this show. Love this crew. Love you. Thank you."
The main cast also included Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher and Casey W. Johnson.
Social media reacts to 'Ransom Canyon' cancellation
The cancellation received mixed reactions online.
"Not surprised the second series was woeful," one X user commented under a post from Deadline, which broke the news. Another commented, "No way. Amazing cast, writers, directing."
"this show was supposed to have 9 seasons!!!" another added.
"This season really had no storeyline [sic]," a Reddit user commented. "The plot is severely lacking. The back and forth with the same drama and romance is already old." Another user reacted, "was it borderline trash? yes. would i have watched four more seasons? also yes."
Another person on Reddit simply wrote, "Two seasons on Netflix is basically a full run at this point."
