Carlos Alcaraz enters the 2026 US Open champion as the betting favorite and defending champion, but his path to another title in New York will be more complicated after a wrist injury sidelined him for much of this season.
Alcaraz hasn't played a singles match since April and his biggest rival, Jannik Sinner, won't be playing due to a right knee injury that forced him to withdraw from the 2026 US Open earlier this month. The situation makes for a fascinating bracket full of players with promising chances to win the tournament, and Alcaraz is barely ahead of French Open champion and No. 1 seed Alexander Zverev, according to BetMGM.
The same goes for the women's singles draw. Two-time defending US Open champion and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is
the favorite again, but she is also in the midst of an underwhelming Grand Slam season by her standards. Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek are considered her fiercest competition based on the odds after the draw was announced. Sabalenka hasn't won a singles title since March and she lost in the fourth round at Roland Garros and during the quarterfinals at Wimbledon earlier this season.
