There is a new backup in South Beach.
The Miami Dolphins have acquired Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a sixth-round pick ahead of the roster cut deadline, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It's a move that comes just one day after the Dolphins shipped Quinn Ewers out of town, sending the backup to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
McCord will slide in behind Malik Willis on the Dolphins' depth chart, continuing a roster overhaul – or teardown – that has taken place this offseason. The Syracuse product shined in the preseason for Green Bay, throwing for 446 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in three games.
He completed 65.7% of passes and posted a passer rating of 102.4.

Love, McCord became expendable.
Notably, the deal was struck between two teams with plenty of ties. Miami hired Jon-Eric Sullivan as its new general manager this offseason, who then promptly hired Jeff Hafley as the team's new head coach.
Those Green Bay ties don't extend to McCord, however. The quarterback only signed with the team back in January, when both Hafley and Sullivan were already gone.
McCord was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 181st overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
