Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud has had a Week 1 deadline placed on negotiations for a contract extension by GM Nick Caserio, who said, "If we don't get it figured out before the season starts, then it'll be something we address in the offseason."

Why It Matters: Stroud looked like a budding superstar after a strong rookie season, throwing for 4,108 yards, 23 TDs, and 5 INTs. Over the last two years, however, the Ohio State product has arguably regressed, and he was so bad during the playoffs that some called for Davis Mills to replace him. The Texans picked up the fifth-year option on Stroud back in April, so he's under contract through 2027. This feels like a potential crossroads season, though, and if nothing is worked
out contractually, it could provide a little extra motivation for Stroud to deliver. He should currently be viewed as a low-end QB2 for fantasy owners.
