As the men's college soccer season heads into mid-October, many of the country's best teams have continued their winning ways.
No. 1 SMU kept its unbeaten record intact last week with a 6-0 thrashing of Duke. In the Big Ten, No. 2 Indiana remained undefeated with a 3-1 win against Kentucky and a 7-0 victory against Division III Hanover College. No. 3 Georgetown extended its win streak to six games with a 3-0 victory against St. John's.
In a matchup of top-15 teams, No. 5 Clemson went on the road and beat No. 13 Stanford in a 3-2 thriller, thanks to three goals in the final 18 minutes of regulation. In one of the biggest games of the week, No. 6 Creighton and No. 12 Akron played to a 1-1 tie after Matthew Paiva's 81st-minute penalty kick goal for the Zips.
There were still some upsets, though.
No. 4 UMKC saw its eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 3-0 road loss against reigning national runner-up North Carolina State. No. 7 Maryland lost for the second time in three games, falling at home to No. 19 Michigan State, 2-1. No. 8 Missouri State suffered its first loss of the season in a 2-1 setback at home against Tulsa.
