Coach Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers are off to a slow start to the 2026 NFL season after losing in Week 2 to the Las Vegas Raiders, 26-14.
Harbaugh is now 0-2 to start the season for the first time during his head coaching career.
He started his head coaching career at the college level with the University of San Diego (2004-2006) and Stanford University (2007-2010) before taking over for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014.
He returned to his alma mater at the University of Michigan from 2015 to 2023 and led the Wolverines to the national championship in 2024.
It is the first time the Chargers have faced an 0-2 start since the 2023 season. The Chargers went 5-12 and finished last in the AFC West that season and Brandon Staley
was fired as coach.
An 0-2 start to the season puts the Chargers in a difficult situation, as very few teams have managed to overcome early season struggles to reach the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl.
Going back to 1990, there's an 11.4% chance that a team could work its way back into the playoffs after an 0-2 start, and only three teams have managed to win the Super Bowl.
The Dallas Cowboys (1993), New England Patriots (2001) and New York Giants (2007) are the only three teams to have players and coaches hold the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season after a 0-2 start.
