As the last week of July kicks off, Pittsburgh and the surrounding region could see severe weather.
Storms skirting the edge of a heat dome over the Plains were developing west of the Great Lakes and the Ohio River Valley by the evening of July 26. As the system continued to develop
, it could bring heavy rain, hail and wind gusts up to 85 miles per hour as it moves toward the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions.Here's what kind of weather Pittsburgh can expect to see this week.
Thunderstorms, wind expected in Pittsburgh July 27
Pittsburgh could see thunderstorms at the start of the week, with damaging winds and heavy rain, when storms could hit Western Pennsylvania, as well as Eastern and Central Ohio
and Northern West Virginia, according to Pittsburgh's National Weather Service office.
Thunderstorms were expected to potentially develop during the afternoon of July 27, with storms most likely in northwest Pennsylvania. The chance of storms bringing damaging winds was higher in the evening, when a larger group of thunderstorms could develop in Eastern Ohio.
Storms were expected to continue through the next day ahead of a cold front, with damaging winds less likely as of July 27 morning. Still, heavy rain was possible, with the potential for localized flooding.
Rain in Pittsburgh could continue through the week's midpoint, with thunderstorms possible on the evening of July 29.

- Monday, July 27: High of 88, low of 69; 30% chance of rain during the day, 60% chance of rain in the evening.
- Tuesday, July 28: High of 82, low of 65; 60% chance of rain during the day, 30% chance of rain in the evening.
- Wednesday, July 29: High of 79, low of 62; 30% chance of rain during the day, 30% chance of rain in the evening.
- Thursday, July 30: High of 82, low of 62; mostly sunny skies.
- Friday, July 31: High of 85, low of 65; mostly sunny skies.
- Saturday, Aug. 1: High of 86, low of 67; 30% chance of rain during the day, 40% chance of rain in the evening.
- Sunday, Aug. 2: High of 85; 40% chance of rain during the day.
