The NWSL expansion franchise coming to Atlanta in 2028 will be named Atlanta City FC, the club announced on Monday, Sept. 28.
The club also released its brand identity, colors and crest, which features a red phoenix surrounded by a dogwood blossom. Atlanta City's colors will be Atlanta red and Georgia peach, platinum metallic and black char.
"Atlanta is a city that has always forged its own path," Deandra Duggans, Atlanta City's chief business officer said in a news release. "Atlanta City FC reflects the energy, diversity and ambition that define this community, and we are proud to build a club that belongs to Atlanta and represents its future on the national stage."
Atlanta City is owned by Arthur Blank and will play its home games at Mercedes-Benz
Stadium. Blank also owns the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and MLS's Atlanta United, who also call the downtown venue home.
The club will enter the NWSL in 2028 alongside a yet-to-be-named team in Columbus. The two new franchises will take the league up to 18 teams.

“When we were awarded an NWSL franchise, our goal was to build a world-class club with a brand that reflects our city’s strength, diversity and spirit," Blank said.
"After an extensive process, we’re proud to introduce Atlanta City FC. Thank you to our leadership team for their diligent work in bringing this brand to life while incorporating input from the passionate soccer supporters of this city. Our supporters are at the heart of everything we do, and their energy and belief will shape the soul of this club. We can’t wait for Atlanta City FC to take the pitch in a few short years."
