A beloved Texas chocolate shop is ready to make more sweet memories.
Lammes Candies, which announced it would close earlier this year after 141 years in business, is set to reopen under new ownership. Fort Worth-based Delightful Development Co., led by Craig Cavileer and Kayla Wilkie-Kinne, acquired the company in partnership with the Lamme family.
The closure in April had been blamed on “unprecedented economic pressures and current market conditions.”
But fans weren’t ready to say goodbye.
Lammes said customers across Texas shared stories, memories and hope that the famous lamb on Austin’s Airport Boulevard wouldn’t disappear for good.
“Surely there must be another chapter left,” the company’s website says.
Founded in 1885, Lammes has served Austin
and Central Texas for generations. The new owners say the recipes, ingredients and traditions that made the shop a Texas favorite will remain.
“Don’t worry. The recipes, premium ingredients, and values that built this Texas legacy aren’t changing,” Lammes Candies wrote on Instagram. “Whether it’s at your team’s tailgate, under the Christmas tree, or passed around at a family reunion, we’re passionate about keeping those traditions alive and making a few new memories along the way.”
Preorders are now available, with orders shipping by Nov. 1.
