Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr. has signed a new long-term contract with the Spanish giants, ending months of speculation about the 26-year-old's future.
"Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr. have agreed to extend our player's contract, which now keeps him with the club through June 30, 2032," the club said in a statement on Thursday, Aug. 6.
"Vinicius has become one of the most important players during one of the most successful periods in our history."
With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season, rumors swirled around Vinicius and he was linked with a move to English champion Arsenal in recent weeks.
Vinicius joined Real Madrid at age 18 from Flamengo (Brazil) in 2018 and has since blossomed into one of the world's greatest players,
scoring 128 goals with 100 assists for the club across all competitions.
In 2024, Vinicius won the Best FIFA Men's Player award and finished runner-up in Ballon d'Or voting after Real Madrid won La Liga and the UEFA Champions League that year, the club's record 15th European crown. Overall, he has won three league titles and two Champions Leagues with Real Madrid.
Vinicius has played for Brazil in the last two World Cups and scored four goals during the 2026 tournament, but the five-time champions were eliminated by Norway in the round of 16.
The same day Real Madrid finalized Vinicius' new contract, the club announced the signing of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for a club-record fee. The 19-year-old starred for Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup.
Real Madrid has come up short on hardware the past two seasons and had a tumultuous 2025-26 campaign that saw manager Xabi Alonso depart midseason, the team get knocked out in the Champions League quarterfinals and finish eight points behind rival Barcelona for the Spanish title.
Jose Mourinho is Real Madrid's new boss, his second stint with the club after managing the team from 2010-2013.
