U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham will be laid to rest this week, and according to officials, those who want to watch the funeral service will have multiple livestream options.
The republican South Carolina senator died July 11 at age 71.
Services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC. There will be other services on Wednesday, July 29, in Columbia, South Carolina, and his birthplace in Pickens County, South Carolina, his team announced.
Sen. Darline Graham, the late senator’s younger sister who has been appointed to carry out the remainder of his term, said in a July 15 news release that she is grateful to those who have helped honor her brother.
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to President Trump
and his team, Washington National Cathedral, Senate leadership, First Baptist Church of Columbia and the Senate Sergeant at Arms for going above and beyond to ensure these will be honorable tributes to Lindsey,” she said.
Services on both July 28 and July 29 will be livestreamed, Graham’s team, C-SPAN and the Washington National Cathedral confirmed.

Watch July 28 service at the Washington National Cathedral
The first service will be on July 28 at the Washington National Cathedral, Graham’s team said. Rev. Dean Hollerith will officiate the service, the cathedral said in a news release. President Donald J. Trump will also deliver a tribute.
Streaming will begin at 10 a.m. ET that morning, and the service will start with an arrival ceremony at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, DC.
Both the Armed Forces Body Bearer Team and the U.S. Capitol Police memorial guard will carry Graham’s remains to honor his service in the U.S. Air Force and in the U.S. Senate.
His remains will be taken to the Washington National Cathedral for the funeral service starting at 2 p.m. ET, his team said. After the funeral service, he will be taken to South Carolina.
Options to livestream the service on July 28 include:
- 10 a.m. ET – USA TODAY’s YouTube livestream.
- 2 p.m. ET – Washington National Cathedral’s YouTube livestream, Washington National Cathedral’s service page or C-SPAN’s livestream.
Watch July 29 service in South Carolina
On July 29, a procession at the South Carolina State House in Columbia will begin at 10:45 a.m. ET. There will also be an F-16 flyover at 11 a.m. ET, Graham’s team announced this month.
“The public is invited to pay their respects along the procession route,” his team wrote, adding that the South Carolina State Guard caisson detachment will carry his remains.
The caisson will travel down Main Street to First Baptist Church of Columbia, where the service will begin at 12 p.m. ET.
There will be a private family burial in Pickens County, South Carolina, his team said.
South Carolina ETV, the state’s public educational broadcasting network, will livestream the July 29 services on YouTube beginning at 10:45 a.m. ET.
Senator had a medical emergency related to main artery
Sen. Graham’s office said he died of a “brief and sudden illness," with a medical examiner later ruling that he died of aortic dissection. He had just returned to Washington, DC, after a trip to Ukraine.
An aortic dissection is a medical emergency in which there is a tear in the inner layer of the body's main artery, the aorta, according to the Mayo Clinic.
When blood rushes through the tear, the inner and middle layers of the artery split or dissect. If the blood travels outside the artery, aortic dissection can be deadly, the clinic said, adding that it isn’t very common but usually happens among men in their 60s and 70s.
“Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period,” his office wrote in an announcement on July 12.
