More artificial intelligence features are coming to iPhone.
Apple debuted its latest software update, iOS 27, on Monday, Sept. 14. The update rolls out Siri AI, a revamped version of the personal assistant with expanded AI capabilities.
iOS 27 comes days after Apple announced the highly anticipated iPhone Duo, the tech giant's first foldable smartphone. Starting at $1,999, the iPhone Duo folds like a book and has two displays so apps, web browsers and home screen pages can run side by side. The smartphone will be available for pre-order on Oct. 16 and available in stores on Oct. 23.

What are the new iOS 27 features?
iOS 27 comes with a plethora
of new features, notably Siri AI.
Siri AI
Announced in June, Siri AI is powered by Apple Intelligence, Apple's in-house AI system. Siri AI, now available in its own app, can work across multiple apps to provide a more well-rounded virtual assistant experience; read, draft and send emails or text messages in a user's voice; and analyze what's on screen and in the camera's viewfinder. The AI assistant can also search a user's content, such as photos from a camera roll from a recent trip.
As part of the update, Siri AI also offers more customizations, including new voice pacing and expressiveness. Siri is now supposed to sound more conversational, less robotic.
Widespread AI capabilities
In addition to Siri AI, iOS 27 offers more Apple Intelligence features:
- Reframe photos after capture with Spatial Reframing or expand photos with the Extend tool.
- Create more high-quality AI-generated images with Apple's Image Playground.
- Get relevant information from a phone call with Call Context. For example, users on the phone with an airline may get a pop-up confirmation with details for an upcoming flight.
- Group Safari tabs into similar topic categories.
- Automate daily tasks with shortcuts.
- Aerial imagery combined with Visual Intelligence to render new flyovers in Apple Maps.
New child safety features
iOS 27 also offers a variety of new child safety features.
In the new Setup Assistant, guardians can choose which system apps children can access, such as iMessage, FaceTime and Apple Maps. Guardians can also control which websites children can access on Safari. If a child wants to access a new website, Ask to Browse allows the child to request permission. This request is then sent to the guardian on iMessage. Guardians can also now set up time allowances for certain apps and websites.
Expanded health tracking
iOS 27 includes new menstruation, perimenopause and menopause tracking in the Health app. Users can track cycles, symptoms and access educational resources.
GymKit is also now available on iPhone with the software update. The app connects to compatible cardio equipment like treadmills, ellipticals, bikes and stair steppers to track real-life metrics, according to the Apple website.
iOS 27 gets a new look
iOS 27 gives users more control over the Liquid Glass interface. Launched in 2025, Liquid Glass appears translucent like glass but with fluidity. Now, users can customize the interface's look, with ranges from "Ultra Clear" to "Fully Tinted."

iOS 27 rolls out to all users on Monday, Sept. 14.
