Cardinals vs Lions expert picks
Adam Kaufman: Lions 31, Cardinals 24
Detroit's offense can score. Detroit's defense can make sure the other guys do, too. The Lions allowed 445 yards in Carolina and have surrendered at least 30 points in three of four games. So, no, I'm not assuming a comfortable afternoon just because the Cardinals are 1-3. This game will come down to which offense can score more or which defense stinks less. However you'd prefer to frame it. Tomato, tomato. Arizona's a mess defensively, having allowed at least 30 points in its last three. Ultimately, I like Detroit to rebound as it so often does off a loss under Dan Campbell. Jared Goff's never lost to the Cardinals. Why start now?
Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz: Lions 38, Cardinals 31
Even with the Lions' defense ranking last - or close
to it - in almost every caegory imaginable, Dan Campbell isn't letting his offense off the hook, saying, "they should want to score 35 points a game at a minimum." That might be what it takes to prevail the rest of the season, including Sunday against the Cardinals. All-Pro Trey McBride could be a particularly troublesome matchup for a group that has repeatedly come up short in containing tight ends. But with a shootout likely brewing, Jacoby Brissett might struggle to hold up against pressure, especially with standout left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. now out for the year.
Blake Schuster: Cardinals 38, Lions 34
Until the Lions prove their defense can stop moss from growing on a stationary rock, I'm not sure anyone has a reason to believe it can slow down any NFL team. Detroit is a mess. It can score points fine, but will give them right back. Anyways, Jeremiyah Love wants the ball more, and the Lions can't really stop the run (or pass), so expect a high-scoring game and lean towards the home team stealing it late.
