Jack Grealish's status for Everton against Newcastle United on Monday, Nov. 2 and beyond is very much in doubt after the continued saga of his club-issued ban.
The England international was left out of the matchday squad
for Thursday's Carabao Cup win over this same Newcastle team due to breaking an unspecified team rule. Multiple reports have said Grealish was punished due to an unauthorized absence from training.Neither David Moyes nor the club have specified exactly how long the midfielder will be sidelined. However, Moyes has fully backed the measure of discipline.
“I’m not going to give any details. It was a club decision and I support it. I don’t want to speak too much about it," Moyes said ahead of Monday's game.
Despite Grealish's absence,
the Toffees were able to advance in the Carabao Cup with a 3-1 win over the Magpies. Now they turn their attention to the league, where they enter Monday's match in 14th place with 10 points through eight matches.
While not divulging the details of the incident that led to the team-imposed ban, Moyes fully backed the club's guidelines for all of its players.
“They’ve got really good values behind it," the coach said. "All the players stand up to the values, accept the values that we put out there, what we want from them on the pitch and off the pitch.”
