Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin sits at an NHL-record 929 goals after announcing that he will retire from the NHL after the 2026-27 season.
The 41-year-old has 82 games left this season to add
to that total, starting on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at home against the rival Pittsburgh Penguins and fellow superstar Sidney Crosby.
Ovechkin broke the seemingly unbreakable Wayne Gretzky record of 894 goals during the 2024-25 season. The following season, he became the first NHL player to score 900 goals.
