Certain deli-style salads and cream cheese products are being recalled due to possible listeria contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration
Dozens of ready-to-eat deli-style items, like potato salad, coleslaw, and more, and cream cheese flavors sold under different labels are being recalled due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to a news release posted on the FDA's website.
An infection from the bacteria can lead to death in young children, the elderly and those with weak immune systems if they are infected. It may also cause miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant people. So far, no illnesses have been reported.

What products are being recalled?
Multiple deli-style salads and cream cheese flavors
sold under the Made Fresh Salads or Northside labels are being recalled.
Recalled items have expiration dates ranging from Sept. 3 through Sept. 18, printed on the bottom left of the product labels.

Where were the recalled salads and cream cheese sold?
The recalled salads and cream cheeses were sold under Made Fresh Salads or Northside labels in 30-pound and 5-pound tubs across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and New York City, per the news release.
Symptoms of an infection from Listeria monocytogenes
Listeria bacteria can cause an infection called listeriosis, which is more likely to harm the following groups of people, according to the Centers for Disease Control:
- Pregnant people
- Newborns
- Older adults
- People with weakened immune systems
People who do not fall into any of the groups listed above can also be infected by the bacteria, but it rarely leads to a serious illness, per the CDC. Symptoms can appear within two weeks of eating food contaminated with the bacteria. The infection is also an "invasive illness" and can spread from one's gut
Symptoms of an invasive illness can include Flu-like symptoms, like muscle aches and/or fatigue, as well as the following:
- Fever
- Headache
- Stiff neck
- Confusion
- Loss of balance
- Seizures
A pregnant person may show mild symptoms, but an invasive case of a listeria infection usually leads to miscarriage, stillbirth or a premature delivery, according to the CDC. It may also cause a "life-threatening infection" in a newborn.
Those who contract an intestinal illness from listeria can also develop diarrhea and vomiting.
