Summer break is coming to a close for Pittsburgh students and teachers.
With just two weeks before most students head back to the classroom, families throughout Pittsburgh are wrapping up their summers with back-to-school shopping and last-minute vacation. Teachers will return the school even sooner to prep for the 2026-2027 school year.
These are the key dates to know over the course of the upcoming year.
When does school start in Pittsburgh?
Students in grades first through 12th will head back to school on Monday, Aug. 24, while kindergarteners will attend their first day of classes on Thursday, Aug. 27, according to the district's website.
Before students come back to school, teachers will return to work on Tuesday, Aug. 18, while paraprofessionals are due back on Friday, Aug. 21.
When are Pittsburgh students off for winter break?
Winter break is set to last 11 days, kicking off on Thursday, Dec. 24. Students will return to classes on Monday, Jan. 4.
When is spring break at Pittsburgh Public Schools?
Spring break 2027 is scheduled to run from Monday, March 22 through Friday, March 26, with students coming back to school on Monday, March 29.
2026-2027 Pittsburgh Public Schools student holiday schedule
In addition to spring and winter break, Pittsburgh Public Schools students will have 12 full days off during the 2026-2027 school year. These holidays include:
- Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 7
- Yom Kippur: Monday, Sept. 21
- Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 3
- Veterans Day: Wednesday, Nov. 11
- Thanksgiving: Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: Monday, Jan. 18
- Clerical and professional development days: Thursday, Jan. 21 and Friday, Jan. 22
- Eid al-Fitr: Wednesday, March 10
- Primary Election Day: Tuesday, May 18
- Memorial Day: Monday, May 31
Do Pittsburgh students get other time off?
Over the course of the year, students will get eight half days. These will take place on:
- Friday, Sept. 18
- Friday, Oct. 9
- Friday, Oct. 23
- Friday, Nov. 20
- Friday, Dec. 18
- Friday, Feb. 12
- Friday, Feb. 26
- Friday, March 12
