Valerie Bertinelli is mourning the loss of a beloved member of the family.
Bertinelli took to Instagram on Thursday, Aug. 28, revealing the death of her longtime cat, Henry.
"Rest in peace, my sweet, gentle, perfect boy," the actress, 66, captioned a photo of the white feline gazing out the window. "Sir Henry 2013-2026."
Henry was one of several pets the "One Day at a Time" and "Valerie's Home Cooking" star owned, which includes four cats and a dog named Luna. Another of her cats, Nelson, died in 2024.
In the comments, Bertinelli's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, paid tribute to Henry: "Can't even begin to explain how special of a cat Henry was. Love you, Ma."
He also shared his own post, which included a series of photos with a lengthy caption.
"He's my
mom's cat, my cat, my wife's cat. Our cat," Van Halen wrote. "His goofy little meows, yelling at us to go outside, him digging his claws in my arm cause he was so happy when I finally did bring him out. Rolling around in empty bathtubs like a goober. It hurts now, and will for a very very long time, but also I'm so happy and lucky this perfect example of a cat was in my life for 13 years."
In a March 2026 interview with USA TODAY, Bertinelli discussed taking a break from dating and being content with her furry friends. "If I end up alone with my cats and my dog, I'm also fine with that. You have to love yourself first and love your own company," she said.
And Van Halen, in a 2023 USA TODAY interview, said he and his mom are longtime cat people.
"She has so many cats, two specific ones that belonged to my grandparents, and when they passed, they moved to my mom's. And now they're pretty much mine and my fiancée's," he said. "I'm a cat person. Nothing against dogs, but there's just something about cats."
