"You Oughta Know" who sang the national anthem ahead of Game 2 of the WNBA Finals.
Seven-time Grammy award-winning singer Alanis Morissette was tapped to perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Chase Center on Monday, Oct. 19, before Game 2 between Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream, a contest the Dream ultimately went on to win 79-65 to even the series at 1-1.
The 52-year-old singer/songwriter donned a Black T-shirt that read, "Tout le Monde Regarde le Sport Féminin," the French variation of the iconic "Everyone Watches Women's Sports" shirt created by Togethxr. Morissette, who was born in Ontario, Canada, before becoming an American citizen in 2005, is of French and Irish descent.
Morissette received a standing ovation, and after her rendition,
she let her allegiance be known.
"I had the privilege of singing the (national) anthem. I came for the anthem and I stayed for the women," Morissette said in a video message shared on Chase Center's Instagram. "I'm so excited. Valkyries, Ballhalla, go."
Morissette was hardly the only star-studded musician in attendance for Game 2. Bay Area rapper Too $hort was on hand to sound the drum at Chase Center, better known as "Ballhalla." The boisterous crowd also included Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, in addition to rapper Latto. LaRussell performed at halftime.
