North Carolina women's basketball has been on a tear on the court each of the last two years with a 29-win season two years ago and 28 wins last season while also making back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances.
Off the court, the Tar Heels have been winning as well and that continued on Thursday morning, Oct. 8, as they added their cornerstone piece of the future with one of Virginia's top high school prospects.
Princess Beach (VA) five-star small forward Micah Ojo announced her commitment to North Carolina on Thursday, choosing the Tar Heels over Duke and Vanderbilt.

The 6-footer
out of Virginia Beach is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 3 small forward prospect and No. 2 player out of Virginia.
Last season, Ojo was named the Gatorade Virginia Girls Basketball Player of the Year after leading Princess Anne to an undefeated season and a fourth consecutive Class 5A state title. On the year, she averaged 16.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.6 blocks per game.
Ojo has also been a standout away from her high school team. She won a pair of gold medals with USA Basketball during the 2025 FIBA U16 women's AmeriCup and during this past summer's FIBA U17 women's World Cup.
This past summer she shot 47.5% from the floor, averaging 11 points alongside 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 rebounds, earning second-team honors. Later in the summer, she led her independent program to the Power 24 circuit championship.
Ojo is the first commitment in North Carolina's 2027 class but she's far from their first five-star commitment in recent years. Last year they signed Kate Harping, the No. 1 player in the 2026 cycle and the year before they signed a pair of top 25 prospects in small forward Taliyah Henderson and power forward Nyla Brooks.
