Roland ‘Rolly’ Romero is set to make his first defense of the WBA welterweight title against former two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez as he steps into the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Romero holds a record of 17 wins and only two losses, making his return to the ring after a 15-month hiatus. After suffering a defeat to Isaac Cruz in March 2024, Romero bounced back with two dominant performances: a decisive victory against Manuel Jaimes in September 2024 followed by a win over Ryan Garcia in May 2025, where he captured the WBA welterweight belt in front of a packed crowd at Times Square in New York City.
Teofimo Lopez enters the bout with a record of 22 wins, including 13 knockouts, and just two losses. Now,
as he makes his debut at 147 pounds, Lopez is eager to redeem himself after a unanimous decision defeat to Shakur Stevenson in January, a loss that cost him the WBO super lightweight title.
