CHICAGO — Case Keenum earned himself another start.
Sort of.
Keenum was under center for the first play in the Chicago Bears' game against the New York Jets on Sunday, Oct. 4. But he was replaced for the second play by Tyson Bagent, who was quarterback for the rest of the series. Bagent went 5-of-7 passing for 62 yards on the drive, which resulted in a turnover on downs after the Bears couldn't get into the end zone from the Jets 3.
D'Andre Swift had two would-be rushing TDs overturned when replay showed he'd been stopped short of the goal line. The other two attempts were incompletions by Bagent.
The question of who would be the Bears QB this week with Caleb Williams still dealing with a hamstring injury dominated Chicago all week.
The 38-year-old
Keenum made his first start in three years against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, outplaying Jalen Hurts in the 27-7 victory. But Bears coach Ben Johnson said after the game there was a reason Bagent had come out of training camp as the team's No. 2 quarterback.
Bagent did not play against the Eagles after spending most of the previous week in the concussion protocol.
Johnson had refused to tip his hand on his QB choice, saying the Bears would make a decision based on who gave them the best chance to win.
"I feel really good about all three quarterbacks in that room, and I know all three of them can win ballgames for us," Johnson said.
