A four-legged detective helped crack the case of an escaped jail inmate in North Texas, according to Texas Game Wardens.
Lola and her handler joined local and state law enforcement officers Monday, Aug. 3, in Erath County, about 80 miles southwest of Dallas, after a man escaped from a nearby jail.
Using the scent from the suspect’s discarded pants, Lola tracked him for more than a mile. She followed the smell along a trail, across streets, past businesses and through alleys before leading officers to a bosque, according to a Game Wardens Facebook post.
"Turns out, ditching your pants doesn’t equal ditching your scent when you have a pro like K9 Lola on your trail," the post said.
The escapee, who was not identified, was subsequently taken back into
custody by the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.
"Outstanding work by everyone involved in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion. (And yes, Lola got a bath.)," the post added.
