Federal officials are investigating after an "incendiary device" was thrown at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Atlanta on Tuesday night.
In a statement to local news outlets, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said the attack occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 20.
"FBI personnel and evidence response technicians are on site collecting evidence. There is no known threat to public safety at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are currently available," the FBI said in a statement.
A plastic lighter and shopping bags with what appeared to be lighter fluid were spotted on the sidewalk near the building by WSB-TV reporters, according to the outlet.
USA TODAY reached out to the ICE Atlanta field office
for more information, and has not received a response.
The ICE offices share the downtown Atlanta building with immigration court. Officials did not release any suspects or possible motive.
What is the Atlanta ICE field office?
The Atlanta Field Office with the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement is a regional office that oversees operations in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The office coordinates arrests, detentions and removals across the Southeast, and collaborates with local jails and regional detention centers for their deportation operations.
ICE operations under the Trump Administration have hit record highs in Georgia, including over the summer when an operation out of the Atlanta office led to the arrests of more than 1,200 undocumented immigrants across the state.
"Operation Safe Community — Atlanta," as the project was called, was intended to detain those with criminal histories, but only half of the undocumented immigrants ultimately detained had any history with law enforcement.
