Its regenerative braking system is one of the best I've tested all year after testing dozens of new cars. If I had to choose between driving the gas or hybrid version, I'd go with the hybrid every time because it's more powerful and goes further on a full tank of gas.
The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motors to produce 194 horsepower. It achieves 36 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway as well. The SUV comes standard with all-wheel drive for better traction.
Interior, tech and comfort: What's it like inside?
The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.6-inch tablet touchscreen infotainment system. It features two front USB ports near the center console storage bin.
I tested the Limited trim, which features Subaru StarTex upholstery, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel and a Harman Kardon 10-speaker audio system. The interior of the Crosstrek feels functional, and premium materials in the final configuration make its cabin more refined.

The Crosstrek Hybrid will fit your lifestyle if you're primarily using it for commuting. If you have a small family, the SUV's interior space could feel cramped during long drives.
