Police in Northern California have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection to a deadly shooting at a Halloween store that left a woman dead and six others injured.
The Oct. 30 mass shooting occurred inside the Solano Town Center at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, about 50 miles northeast of San Francisco, police said. Seven people were struck by gunfire, one of whom died at the scene, Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall previously said.
In an updated Nov. 3 post on social media, police said the teen, whom USA TODAY is not naming because he is a minor, was arrested one day earlier in Suisun City, a waterfront community in Solano County just south of Fairfield.
Police wrote in the post that an investigation determined the teen
was "responsible for the deadly shooting" that left 31-year-old Constance Hages, whom family said was pregnant, dead.
Police said the teen will be charged with one count of murder but could face an additional murder count if Hages was pregnant. The Solano County Coroner's Office will determine whether Hages was pregnant, police said.
It was not immediately known whether the teen will be tried as an adult.
USA TODAY has reached out to police for more information.
What happened in Spirit Halloween store shooting?
According to the latest update from police, around 8:30 p.m. PT Oct. 30, the suspect walked into the store and saw a customer, who investigators believe was his intended target. The suspect then brandished a firearm and fired multiple rounds at the victim, striking the intended victim as well as six other people in the store, police said.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and found the victims, including Hages, who died at the scene from her injuries.
The other six injured victims were taken to hospitals. They include a 16-year-old boy and three men, ages 19, 23 and 32, who were in stable condition as of Nov. 2, police said. Two other men, ages 19 and 43, were treated for gunshot wounds and later released.
After reviewing surveillance footage from the store, police said a Fairfield Police School Resource Officer recognized the suspect as a former student arrested in connection to a shooting in a high school parking lot last year, and provided that information to detectives.
During the after-school hours shooting, Marshall said the teen opened fire on a vehicle in the parking lot.
At the time the Halloween store shooting, he had already been sentenced in that case and since released, police said. During a news conference, Marshall said the teen had previously spent time in juvenile hall, but details of his punishment were not immediately known as juvenile proceedings are generally closed to the public.
The case remained under investigation on Nov. 3, law enforcement said.
