Bret Michaels is off the road for the rest of the year as he recovers from kidney stone surgery.
A day after returning to his Live and Amplified tour with a performance in Sugar Hill, Georgia, the rock star, 63, announced that he’s calling off his remaining 2026 dates.
“Doctors and paramedics determined immediately after the show that he still needs additional rest and recovery from his recent surgeries,” according to a statement shared on Michaels’ verified social accounts on Saturday, Aug. 22. “Bret will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%.”
The post also quotes his physicians, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel: “We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being. He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there
is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.”

Hours later, in a pinned comment on his Instagram account, the Poison frontman wrote: “In my nonstop spirit to go out & do what I love − which is to play music and to see all of you, all my family, friends and fans & meet everybody … it’s what I truly love − I may have just chosen to go sooner than I should have. We will come back better than ever.”
USA TODAY has reached out to Michaels’ representatives for an update.
Last month, Michaels underwent surgery to remove a kidney stone and place a ureteral stent, which took him off the stage for several weeks.

The rock star, a Type 1 diabetic since childhood, has been candid with fans about his health issues. He suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2010, had a hole in his heart repaired in 2011 and underwent kidney surgery in 2014.
"I adapt and change with what my body can do," he told USA TODAY in 2023. "There is no magic pill. I am like a true muscle car – still fast, still fun to ride, but I just need a little more maintenance."
His last planned dates for 2026 were Nov. 13 and 14 in Harris, Michigan, at Island Resort and Casino.
