President Donald Trump is offering conservative commentator Katie Zacharia, who previously worked at the Department of Homeland Security, the job of White House press secretary, a White House official confirmed.
The position has been open for more than a month since Karoline Leavitt left the post at the end of August.
Zacharia would be the seventh woman in the role in a row. The past six press secretaries have been women, and the last man in the job was Sean Spicer, who held the role for six months at the beginning of Trump's first term.
A public biography says Zacharia attended the Caruso School of Law and Seaver College and worked in corporate law, political advocacy, higher education, and nonprofits.
Zacharia's LinkedIn account says she is a senior
communications advisor at Trump Media and Technology Group, the company that runs Truth Social. She also worked as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, has appeared as a commentator on Newsmax, Fox News and CNN, is the general counsel for Fix California and interned at the Republican National Committee.
Fix California is a conservative group founded by Ric Grenell, a close Trump ally who serves as his special missions envoy and is the former president of the Kennedy Center. The organization advocates for conservative policies in California.
