Tap to pay is finally coming to Walmart and Sam's Club stores.
The company announced in an Aug. 21 news release that tap to pay will be added to the payment options at select Walmart and Sam's Club stores this year.
Walmart has long resisted calls from shoppers to add tap to pay to its payment options – so shoppers on social media were thrilled to learn about the company's decision.
"Finally. Holy moly!" one user wrote on Reddit.
"They've been leaving money on the table," a second user wrote. "I've witnessed first hand them losing a sale because no tap."
But when is the new payment option coming to your store? Here's what we know.

When is tap to pay coming to Walmart stores?
Tap to pay will begin rolling out on Aug. 24, the retailer said, with plans to be in all U.S. stores and clubs by the end
of 2026 and to gas stations by mid-2027.
Walmart did not specify which stores would be receiving the tap to pay feature first and a Walmart spokesperson told USA TODAY the company did not have any additional information to offer other than was provided in the news release.
What is tap to pay?
Tap to pay is a contactless payment method that lets consumers pay for items by holding a card, smartphone or smartwatch near a payment terminal.
Walmart said customers and members can also add their eligible Walmart, Sam's Club or OnePay cards to their digital wallets, giving them another way to use their cards. At Sam's Club, members can also use Scan & Go to scan and pay as they shop, skipping the traditional checkout line.
