Miami-Dade commuters will pay higher prices for Metrobus and Metrorail service, according to a press release by the county.
Fares will increase by 50 cents, from $2.25 to $2.75. The county claims it's the first fare hike in more than 13 years, and is intended to preserve service along 13 routes that were eliminated during the "FY 2026-27 budget process."
"While this is our first fare increase in more than 13 years, we recognize that every dollar matters for working families," said Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County Mayor. "The additional revenue will help keep more buses running and preserve the service residents rely on."
When will the Miami-Dade Metrobus, Metrorail fare increase take effect?
The fare increase will take effect in January 2027. "Combined with minor Metrorail operating adjustments," the fare hike
is "expected to generate" about $9.2 million, according to the press release.
The routes the county said the fare hike helped preserve were scheduled for elimination starting in March of next year.
"This included late-evening service on seven major corridors ... and five routes serving areas with limited or no other transit options," reads the press release.
"These restorations will help keep our community connected and ensure more riders can continue getting where they need to go, including those who depend on transit late into the evening,” said Stacy L. Miller, director and CEO of Miami-Dade County's Department of Transportation and Public Works.
The "late-evening restorations include 24-hour routes" 11, 79, 77, 3 and 27. The five "coverage routes serve 42nd Avenue, Biscayne Park, Florida City west of US-1, 125th Street, and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and West Miami."
