The San Francisco 49ers just took another blow to their wide receiver room with injuries to Demarcus Robinson and Mike Evans.
Robinson suffered a high ankle sprain and Evans a hip injury, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said after San Francisco's 35-13 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 2.
The injuries to their wide receiver corps has sparked questions of whether the Niners would reconsider Brandon Aiyuk's standing with the team.
The 28-year-old wide receiver has not played for San Francisco since the 2024 season after suffering injuries in his ACL and MCL.
He missed the entire 2025 season and the 49ers voided his guaranteed contract because Aiyuk allegedly did not attend treatment or team meetings.
That said, head coach Kyle Shanahan had a simple
answer when asked if the team would consider Aiyuk an option.
"No," he said post-game.
Evans and Robinson may be added to list of weapons that are out for San Francisco if their injuries cause them to miss time. The current list includes Ricky Pearsall, De'Zhaun Stribling and tight end Jake Tonges.
With all the injuries the Niners have sustained, they are leaning on the depth of their active players. Quarterback Brock Purdy is confident in the next-man-up mentality.
"I mean, yeah, it sucks. These are all extremely great playmakers. Looking at our roster and OTAs in camp, it's like, 'oh shoot, we can do some damage', and then yeah, Ricky (Pearsall) goes down, (De'Zhaun Stribling) Strib, and now (Demarcus Robinson) D-Rob," Purdy said to reporters after the game.
"It's all right. D-Rob's out, Jake Cowing's up, (KhaDarel) Hodge is up. So, and I have a lot of trust in those guys. I thought they came in and did a great job today."
