Car shoppers are paying more than ever for new models, and after they make the purchase, Americans are spending record amounts on the upkeep of those vehicles.
According to a new study released by Insurify, Americans are spending $5,851 per year on the upkeep of their autos. That amount includes what they spend on gas, insurance and maintenance, according to the group.
"Most Americans depend on a car for daily life," the group said. "Higher vehicle prices make that more difficult, and as prices have risen, the cost of upkeep has followed."
Insurify said where you primarily drive your car also plays a big role in determining how much it will cost you to keep it up.
"Rural states require more driving, which often leads to higher gas costs," the group
said. "Meanwhile, densely populated states often have higher car insurance rates because more traffic leads to more collisions."
