The Ross Fire in Palo Pinto and Jack County has grown to 80,000 acres in North Texas, prompting mandatory and recommended evacuations, road closures and school delays as firefighters battle fast-moving flames.
The fire began the afternoon of Aug. 24 west of Palo Pinto, an unincorporated community about 80 miles west of Fort Worth, and quickly ballooned to 80,000 acres, fueled by dry grass, brush and trees in hot, dry, windy conditions. The Texas A&M Forest Service reported the fire was 12% contained in its latest update.
